With pre-columbian origins, the mask has always been a constant element present in different Latin American cultures. Join Sur-collective in a DIY/Creative Lab where you will explore the potential of the mask by creating your own.
About
Sur-collective was founded in 2021 by six latina artists out of the need to create a sense of place and redefine the space they use as migrant women in Aotearoa. They think of art as a tool to create new experiences, connect with other communities, and collaborate in the construction of diverse and inclusive spaces. This activity is open to all participants (kids must be supervised) and no previous experience is required.
This Room is an Island is a fully interactive, inhabitable world retold by a displaced daughter in another home.
Through dance and digital innovation, Yin-Chi Lee and collaborators create a multimedia experience: a space-within-space built by two generations’ memories of belonging and not belonging to the same world(s). The audience are guided through by performers to become an integral part of the narrative and the visual world.
Born amidst the threats of war, This Room is an Island is a living memory held together by both fear and love. It is the enduring mistakes of the past that echo into our future. It’s an invitation to reflect on our own histories and to re-discover our places in the ever-evolving landscape of human experience.
You are invited to a FAB, FUN, FESTIVE and FREE event – Full of CRAFT, CREATIVITY and CHRISTMAS CHEER!!
Creative Henderson Massey, The Te Manawa Community Centre and Art Battle Auckland have joined forces. The Te Manawa Christmas Market will be chock full of stalls, tantalizing treats and activations – PLUS a mini–Art Battle – for a taste of the world’s biggest LIVE painting competition right here on our doorstep!
We are looking for our local artists and creatives to come and join us, as we inspire our community with an immersive and super friendly speed painting competition. You’ve heard of Art Battle. Well, this is A Taste of Art Battle: 2 artists face off in 15-to-20-minute quick-fire rounds. Artists are free to paint whatever they want. Its winner stays on – and the audience decides! All the artwork goes up for sale in an on-the-spot auction at the end of each round. The artists take 50% from the sale – with easels, canvases, paints, brushes and all art supplies provided. 1 extra twist: Audience members are welcome to enter as ‘wildcards’ and challenge our artists. Are you up for the challenge??!
