PERSPECTIVES EXHIBITION

PERSPECTIVES

‘Perspectives’ is a photography exhibition by local creative and dancer Sierra Diprose. This project is about activating spaces in the neighborhood, and finding inspiration in places you would not normally expect to find it in. It is about taking the time to see the spaces through a fresh lens, and capturing empowering images. There will also be photographs displayed from a few local schools that Sierra has had the pleasure of working with through ‘The Creative Human Project’ workshops. Thanks to Creative Henderson Massey and The Henderson Local board for supporting this project.

Sunday Girl Exhibition

SUNDAY GIRL POP-UP EXHIBITION

This all female group show is a platform for expressing and sharing a woman’s worldview as we operate our multi-tasking layered lives as daughters, sisters, mothers, partners, thinkers, givers, workers, and creatives.

25 diverse artists will be celebrated – it is a spotlight on the female artist and a challenge to the bias that exists in the commercial art world.

Curated by Leela Bhai, this annual exhibition will consist of established, experimental and unexpected artists, all encouraged to exhibit under a pseudonym. Artist names vary from poignant symbolism, personal anecdote or just plain silliness, with the tales of their origin often shared on opening night. Each piece may represent a past self, vision of a future self or a particular thought pattern from half an hour ago and the wide range of mediums reflect the diverse range of women participating in the show.

Friday 8 April 2022
6pm

Cultural Sector Emergency Relief Fund

Cultural Sector Emergency Relief Fund

Manatū Taonga (Ministry for Culture and Heritage) has announced the Cultural Sector Emergency Relief Fund is now open.

This $5 million fund of last resort, supports cultural organisations, including sole traders, at clear risk of no longer operating viably. Manatū Taonga has created this fund because there are parts of the sector that are not eligible for support from other agencies.

This Fund is open to cultural sector organisations, including businesses and charities who have current legal status in New Zealand, and also to sole traders who have a New Zealand Business Number.

What could organisations who are eligible for the cultural sector emergency relief fund receive?

subject to eligibility requirements and the availability of funds, the amount of funding would be the difference between the organisation’s revenue and expenses over the six-week period following their application.

subject to the availability of funds and again meeting eligibility requirements, organisations could apply for an additional round of support at the end of six weeks.

Organisations will be able to receive up to $100,000 from the Cultural Sector Emergency Relief Fund, sole traders up to $30,000, in total across all application rounds.

What can the funds from the cultural sector emergency fund be used for?

Organisations can use the funding  for essential business expenditure, such as staff salaries, fixed operational costs for the duration of the funding period, business debt repayments and for ongoing costs for projects, and/or activity that is essential to continued operations. Funding received from the Cultural Sector Emergency Fund cannot be used to rebuild cash reserves, future planning costs (e.g. risk assessments), or capital expenditure. Organisations submitting subsequent applications for additional support will need to demonstrate that the previous funding was appropriately used and will need to again meet eligibility criteria.

Soil Art Exhibit

Most of us spend time outdoors in our garden or yard. It’s the place where we can experience nature and feel the earth beneath our feet. Whether you are a keen gardener, growing vegetables, or watching the kids digging holes and playing with dirt – you may wonder what is in your soil and what it means for you and your neighbours.
Soilsafe Aotearoa is all about that, a programme with plenty of ways to get involved.

Soil Safe presents

Works by Ekarasa Doblanovic (soil pigment art), Shona Dey (photography), and Nicole Johnson (watercolour).

Soil photoscapes and soundscapes for a sensory soil experience: hear and see what communities around Aotearoa have told us about their values of soil.

The Opportunity

Te Manawa is seeking expressions of interest from artists to design and facilitate a collaborative community artwork to celebrate Te Manawa’s two-year anniversary.  The vision is to create a temporary arts activation and/or artwork within Te Manawa over the coming months. The local community will contribute to a collaborative artwork that can be part of or activate Te Manawa for up to a year.

The opportunity is open to creatives of all skill levels and backgrounds – from emerging artists and students to established professionals – individuals, community groups and organisations can all apply.

About Te Manawa

Te Manawa is a multipurpose facility and the first of its kind in Auckland – both a community hub and library built for the city of the future and generations to come. As a cornerstone of Westgate’s urban complex, Te Manawa will provide West Aucklanders with space and resources to explore, connect and grow.

What we are looking for

The theme is TWOgether, and we are looking for artists to conceive and lead community-made temporary artworks that transform, activate and/or enhance the public spaces of Te Manawa. We want to involve our communities in art making event(s) that are open for all to participate in.We encourage you to come and visit Te Manawa, explore our unique building and public spaces and think

Considerations

– We are most interested in receiving EOIs from artists who live in West Auckland or are significantly connected to West Auckland.

– We are keen for the work to be produced as sustainably as possible.

– We would like to use locally sourced materials and/or suppliers as much as possible to support our local community and economy.

Budget

The successful proposals will be given budget of $3000 to design and deliver. Te Manawa will pay for kai for the community members taking part in the artwork making.
