#weRculture supported by UNESCO Creative Cities Network
weRculture is a new initiative undertaken by the network of UNESCO Creative Cities around the world, which Auckland is proudly part of.
It calls on the public all over the world to behave responsibly and respectfully in this difficult situation via video messages from creatives.
Here’s how it works: 1. Create a short video (up to 6- seconds) and explain why culture is so important. This can be non-verbal. 2. Finish your video with the words: “Stay home now, so we can meet again sooner. Think Respectfully. Act responsibly. We are culture.” 3. Once your video is ready, please share with the hashtags: #flattenthecurve #stayathome #weRculture. Please also tag @weRculture2020 and @aucklandcityofmusic in your post.
The CCS is a nation-wide programme funded by Creative NZ and delivered in partnership with Auckland Council.
The scheme enables communities to bring art (music, dancing, film-making, weaving, singing, poetry and theatre) into the everyday lives of Aucklanders across the region on beaches, in parks, community halls, theatres, streets and galleries.
Every year there are three rounds of funding. Round One for 2020 is now open.
A guide is available on how to apply for a grant and you’ll need to check that you’re eligible for the arts funding, see link below.
The Arts Broker, Renee Tanner is happy to help with your application. Please get in contact with Renee if you’d like to apply.
Applications are open from 01 April 2020 to 07 June 2020
Be a part of Aotearoa’s largest public art event of 2021.
For 10 weeks during the Summer/Autumn of 2021, Whale Tales will showcase 70 tails, illustrated by 70 artists, and telling 70 tales, in a public art sculpture trail exploring Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland with one mission: to tell the story of a healthy ocean. It is a fun, free, family-friendly journey of discovery throughout Auckland’s streets, parks, and open spaces during what promises to be Auckland’s most action-packed summer yet!
Now is your opportunity to be a part of this incredible story by helping bring these beautiful sculptures to life!
Organisers are actively encouraging submissions from the local and regional arts community. Designs are welcomed in any medium – traditional to new media, fine art to illustrations, street art, mosaic, or anything else you can imagine for your tail!
Right now, businesses, organisations, community groups, and education institutions are lining up to sponsor a blank whale tale. They will select their favourite design from among the submissions. Successful artists are then commissioned to bring their design to life.
Now, is your opportunity to join some of the incredible artists already on board.
Submissions are due by 11:59pm (NZST) on 1 June 2020.
