Calling all artists!

WHALE TALES | AUCKLAND 2021

Be a part of Aotearoa’s largest public art event of 2021.

For 10 weeks during the Summer/Autumn of 2021, Whale Tales will showcase 70 tails, illustrated by 70 artists, and telling 70 tales, in a public art sculpture trail exploring Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland with one mission: to tell the story of a healthy ocean. It is a fun, free, family-friendly journey of discovery throughout Auckland’s streets, parks, and open spaces during what promises to be Auckland’s most action-packed summer yet!

Now is your opportunity to be a part of this incredible story by helping bring these beautiful sculptures to life!

Organisers are actively encouraging submissions from the local and regional arts community. Designs are welcomed in any medium – traditional to new media, fine art to illustrations, street art, mosaic, or anything else you can imagine for your tail!

Right now, businesses, organisations, community groups, and education institutions are lining up to sponsor a blank whale tale. They will select their favourite design from among the submissions. Successful artists are then commissioned to bring their design to life.

Now, is your opportunity to join some of the incredible artists already on board.

Submissions are due by 11:59pm (NZST) on 1 June 2020.
