Sustainability eco art workshops

Clay-soil-plant Whenua exploration

Ekarasa will run a series of eco art workshops exploring our natural environment such as local soils and clays as sculptural and malleable material using eco paint and pastels. The project seeks to build on methodology of community engagement and connection to place fostering compassionate relationships between the participants and the environment.

Ekarasa will hold 2-3 workshops as series for each group of 10 – 20 participants in order to gain a deeper understanding of the process and build a relationship with each other and the creative process itself. Total 8-12 workshops. The final outcome will be displayed and celebrated in the community and dynamically on an online platform.

This project offers many benefits for community arts including:

• The opportunity to participate in an individually expressive yet collective creative arts project.

• Participation in creative group art making processes that are contemporary in aesthetics yet linked to traditional arts processes.

• An opportunity for every individual to create and contribute to an artwork that is displayed and acts as contemporary art installation

• Engaging a range of people in the community young and elderly.

• Appreciation and gratitude of common and familiar materials.

• Practical hands on learning of the diverse earthen materials and

geology linked to places particular to the local area.

The workshops are designed to be:

Zero waste, fun, creative, educational, non-hierarchical, stimulate lateral thinking, develop empathy and responsibility, community oriented, participatory and celebratory.
