The Creative Human Project is a platform to empower and inspire people to create meaningful dance images, while having fun dancing and learning together, and creating connections in a safe environment. The project consists of youth and community-based movement and photography workshops for 13-18 years olds.
There will be a series of 10 workshops with 10 different groups over 10 weeks, January through to March. The workshops will take place in the Henderson Town Centre area, capturing movement images in and around the area with passerbys and any audience included. It will be a great way activate community participation and great for the area as we find and present dance in places that aren’t expected.
The photos will then be exhibited in local shops, community centres, libraries and public places in the local area the workshops take place in. They will also be shared on a community platform #thecreativehumanproject.
Some of the workshops will happen at local board schools within their dance/creative department. There will be around 300 youth aged between 13-18 spread out over the 10 workshops. This kind of reach is so important in engaging rangatahi in the creative process of how to create movement for dance images.
Sierra has a lot of experience running workshops with this age group, and has found they respond to the process very well.
The youth will:
• Get to learn from an experienced professional dancer/creative practitioner
• Learn a new skill and learn how to collaborate in a group setting
• Positively impact their mental health and energy
• Give them something to look forward to in their summer holidays and start of school year
• Empower them to become creative human beings
Sierra is a professional dancer, creative, and movement educator.
