The aim of this project is to help improve the mental health and wellbeing of local older people , and share positive energy through dance. Weekly workshops will be held over several months to create connection and community through dance and movement.
Often older people feel isolated and disconnected from society. Movement can improve their mental health, social connections, improve cognitive function and give them something to look forward to.
The workshops would run from beginning of December 2020 through to April 2021 at retirement homes in the LB area. Each workshop will have approximately 30 participants.
December – Meet and greet and start exploring movement through fun movement games.
February – Refresh their memories of what we had learnt in December and start learning phrases.
March – Each participant gets the option of selecting what song we dance to and start to create something
April – Continue building on what we have been learning and work towards a small show for staff and family.
Throughout the duration of the workshops the participants will:
• Learn a new skill and gain a new hobby
• Be exposed to the arts through dance and movement
• Feel empowered as the workshops will be targeted at their own individual ability
• Create connection and community throughout the process
• Connect with those from a younger generation and share that positivity and energy.
