The Crescendo Trust is a youth mentoring programme, working with young people aged 12 – 24 years. Their point of difference is that through mentoring programmes in music, production, content development, event management and radio production young people get to directly engage and connect with people working in the creative industries. This enables them to learn about a wide range of industry relationships, knowledge and skills, they benefit from exposure to real-world industry experience and training, including employment opportunities. The focus is slightly different with each individual but the goal remains the same; to empower NZ youth with a strong sense of self and the courage to make positive decisions for their future pathways.
Under normal circumstances the mentoring takes place at Corbans in Henderson and Te Atatu Community Centre (as well as Te Oro in Glen Innes, Kelston and Point Chev Community Centres). Due to the current COVID-19 situation, Crescendo are now transitioning to a virtual mentoring programme. This project requires Crescendo to adapt the way they work, using video links, digital tools and software to continue to mentor the young people. Creative Henderson-Massey are supporting the organisation with software tools to enable the mentors to be able to continue to provide the same level of mentoring in a virtual environment. Many of the young people they engage with come from at-risk environments and Crescendo feel it is imperative to continue the programme, providing focus and learning during this time, as well as well-being and mental health support.
The Crescendo Trust empower NZ youth with a strong sense of self and the courage to make positive decisions for their future pathways.
