Ko Taku Ranui

Colwill School, Massey hosted author-teacher David Riley in Term 2 this year to create a published book inspired by the places they live. The book is a celebration of the young people’s homes, streets and the wider Henderson-Massey community. 8 students were involved in the project (4x Year 7’s and 4x Year 8’s) 7 girls and one boy. The students met with David once a week, focusing on writing about their streets and neighbourhoods. Titled Ko Taku Rānui: A celebration of West Auckland street, with writings by the students and introduction by the School Principal.

The writing has been completed and ready for publication. A local photographer will be engaged to capture photos of each young writer. It will be designed and printed locally by the end of the year. A publication launch event will take place for all involved at the school and at a local library.
