Art Battle is an internationally recognised live competitive painting event. Art Battles are held within communities, with the goal of making art accessible, inspiring and engaging for all.
A typical art battle consists of 12 artists, battling it out through 3 quick fire rounds, to determine the champion of the night. The evening is interactive, as the audience decides – via a manual or online voting/bidding system. All work goes to auction at the end of the night. An MC and a DJ ensure the atmosphere is upbeat, and help to keep the crowd informed and energised.
Local Artists are invited to take part, via a Call for Artists. Art Battle provides a genuine platform for creatively minded people from all walks life. It celebrate and showcase the unique talents and techniques the artists bring, so they can do what they do best – and inspire their community.
Art Battle is an event format that came to Auckland only 2 years ago and has grown a supportive community of artists, with each event attracting audiences of 250 to 300+. The uniqueness of the event is that it makes art accessible to a wide audience, by breaking down the barrier of expectations around art practice and the ‘white-walled gallery’ environment of art. It brings art into a fun ‘live’ environment for all to enjoy. It provides artists with the opportunity to showcase their talents ‘live’, promote their practice and join a wider community of artists that is growing around the Artbattle events held in NZ and overseas.
Creative Henderson Massey, The Te Manawa Community Centre and Art Battle Auckland have joined forces. The Te Manawa Christmas Market will be chock full of stalls, tantalizing treats and activations – PLUS a mini–Art Battle – for a taste of the world’s biggest LIVE painting competition right here on our doorstep!
We are looking for our local artists and creatives to come and join us, as we inspire our community with an immersive and super friendly speed painting competition. You’ve heard of Art Battle. Well, this is A Taste of Art Battle: 2 artists face off in 15-to-20-minute quick-fire rounds. Artists are free to paint whatever they want. Its winner stays on – and the audience decides! All the artwork goes up for sale in an on-the-spot auction at the end of each round. The artists take 50% from the sale – with easels, canvases, paints, brushes and all art supplies provided. 1 extra twist: Audience members are welcome to enter as ‘wildcards’ and challenge our artists.
